(CEO of Antah Healthcare Group)
Distinguished guests, esteemed colleagues, ladies and gentlemen,
It is a profound honour to stand before you today at this prestigious 3rd Asia Pacific Sustainability Conference — a gathering of some of the most visionary and committed leaders shaping the future of health, beauty, and wellness in our region and beyond. This gathering represents more than just an exchange of ideas; it is a powerful movement toward building a sustainable, resilient future where people and the planet are at the heart of all our endeavours.
Throughout history, the pursuit of health, beauty, and wellness has been central to human development. From ancient civilisations, where holistic approaches to well-being were rooted in nature and tradition, to the modern era driven by innovation and scientific discovery, these sectors have always been catalysts for societal progress. They are woven into the very fabric of our cultures, serving as symbols of vitality, social cohesion, and national pride.
In recent decades, however, the global landscape has changed dramatically. We face environmental challenges such as climate change, resource depletion, and pollution — all of which threaten the sustainability of our ecosystems and societies. The World Health Organization reports that environmental factors are responsible for approximately 23% of all global deaths. This alarming statistic underscores that health is inextricably linked to the health of our planet.
Today, we see a growing awareness that the pursuit of beauty and wellness must go hand-in-hand with sustainable practices. Consumers worldwide are demanding eco-friendly, toxin-free solutions that support community well-being while respecting the environment. We recognize that our industry has a unique role as both a driver and a catalyst of positive change, inspiring innovations that promote health for people and the planet.
This is why the focus on people and the planet is not just an ethical imperative but also an economic one. When we nurture healthy communities, we create a more resilient workforce, reduce healthcare costs, and drive sustainable economic growth. Conversely, neglecting sustainability risks long-term social and economic instability.
Looking at the global phenomenon, we observe that health, beauty, and wellness now form an enormous industry that influences billions of lives. This sector is expected to be driven by an increasing emphasis on holistic wellness, mental health, and natural beauty. The COVID-19 pandemic has further amplified this shift, emphasising the importance of health security, resilience, and self-care.
"Healing People, Healing Planet" — The global wellness industry was valued at USD 4.5 trillion in 2020 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 5.9% between 2021 and 2028, reaching over USD 7 trillion by 2028. This remarkable growth reflects the increasing recognition of wellness as a vital component of sustainable development and quality of life. As leaders and changemakers gather here, we are reminded that our efforts to promote sustainable health, beauty, and wellness are not only vital for individual well-being but also essential for the resilience of our communities and the preservation of our planet.
In Malaysia and the wider Asia Pacific region, we are fortunate to have the opportunity to lead this transformative movement. Our nation has a proud history of development, notably through initiatives like Vision 2020, which laid the foundation for economic transformation and social progress. Today, we stand at a new milestone — a gateway to the future with the Re-generative Generation concept, aiming toward 2065, where sustainability and regenerative growth are central to our development narrative.
This conference embodies that aspirational spirit. It is a vibrant forum for the world's leading minds and leaders in sustainability within health, beauty, and wellness to collaborate, innovate, and influence. Together, we can spark new ideas — conscious business models, technological innovations, and community-driven initiatives — to drive economic growth responsibly and inclusively.
I am confident that the insights and connections made here will inspire initiatives that are regenerative—restoring ecosystems, revitalizing communities, and building a resilient, healthy society for generations to come. As we look ahead, let us remember that our shared responsibility extends beyond profit and progress; it demands compassion, stewardship, and a commitment to ensuring the long-term well-being of both people and the planet.
To all attendees, I thank you for your dedication, your presence, and your unwavering purpose. And to the recipients of the Asia Pacific CEO Sustainability Awards, I want to reaffirm our full support for your inspiring leadership.
Together, we aim to grow your influence beyond borders and connect under the umbrella of sustainable business networks within our region and the global community.
Let us continue to work with purpose and sustain the momentum. Our collective efforts will shape a healthier, more equitable, and vibrant future—one where prosperity is shared and harmony with the environment is paramount.
In closing, I emphasise that the journey toward sustainability is ongoing, demanding our relentless passion and innovative spirit. It is in our hands to build a future that honours the legacy of our ancestors, meets the needs of today, and safeguards the resources for tomorrow.

Keynote Speech by
Datuk Mohd Ridhwan Mohd Ali
(President of Gerakan Belia 4B Malaysia)
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,
Good morning and warm greetings. Distinguished organizers of this conference, the Sustainable Business Network Association (SustNet), esteemed leaders, experts, innovators, and colleagues from across the Asia Pacific region,
Let me begin by expressing my deepest gratitude to SustNet for bringing us together. This conference is not just another gathering — it is a platform for us to shape the future of how we think about health, beauty, wellness, and sustainability for both people and planet.
Inspired by the story of Mr Ashraff. I had a story losing half of my teeth 3 years ago in Bertam Penang.
1. Opening: Why This Theme Matters
Ladies and gentlemen, this year, the Asia Pacific Sustainability Conference champions the theme: “Sustainable Health, Beauty and Wellness for People and Planet: Empowering Communities through VIVIA.” Now, VIVIA is a simple but powerful idea. It comes from “VIVID” — alluding to beauty, vibrancy, and a flourishing planet. And it comes from “VITALITY” — representing health, wellness, and thriving people.
In short, VIVIA reminds us that true wellness is not just about how good we look, but also about how healthy we are, and how well our planet is cared for. It is about solutions that bring health to people, beauty to our environment, and wellness to our communities — all in one.
2. The Global Context
The challenges before us are real:
• The climate crisis that affects human health and natural beauty.
• Pollution and plastic waste that scar our planet.
• Rising healthcare and food costs that put wellness out of reach for many.
-
And the Covid-19 pandemic, which reminded us that true resilience and wellness are about communities, not just individuals.
In the Asia Pacific, these challenges are magnified. We represent half the world’s population, vast consumer markets, and immense biodiversity. If we fail, the world feels it. If we succeed, the world will follow.
3. My Personal Journey in Sustainability
🔹 Energy & Planetary Wellness – In 2014, I obtained my own license to install a solar panel system at my home in Melaka. At that time, renewable energy knowledge was scarce. I learned it myself, designed the system, and generated 12 kilowatts of clean energy daily. This was my way of contributing to planetary wellness — proving that individuals can take responsibility for a cleaner, healthier future.
🔹 Resilience for Communities – Later, I was appointed as the Chief Resilience Officer for the Melaka Historic City Council. For two years, I led the development of the Resilient Melaka Roadmap, a plan to ensure that our city could survive shocks and disasters. The hardest part was not technology, but the lack of honest data. Too often, problems are hidden instead of solved. That experience taught me that communities need leaders who are courageous enough to face reality and act decisively. RM1 million grant.
🔹 Affordable Wellness through Food Security – During Covid-19, I assisted an entrepreneur in securing RM8 million in government food security grants. Together, we developed 100 acres of sweet corn and napier grass. These were sold as food and animal feed at lower prices to local farmers and cattle breeders. The goal was simple: to reduce food costs and make nutrition more accessible. That is what sustainable wellness means — wellbeing that is affordable and inclusive.
🔹 Environmental Beauty & Plastic Waste – Earlier this year, during the National Hari Raya Celebration 2025, I opposed the use of 70,000 single-use plastic bottles. My request was turned down. But instead of giving up, my team at the World Youth Foundation set up plastic collection points with the support of 100 volunteers. We managed to collect back 20% of the bottles, preventing them from ending up in landfills. This showed me that even when change is resisted, we can still intervene, innovate, and reduce the harm. That, too, is part of protecting the beauty of our planet. Next year we aims to get organiser to avoid single plastic use and get alternatives for it.
4. Lessons from These Experiences
From these journeys, I discovered that sustainability is about real action:
• Taking responsibility in our own homes.
• Leading with courage in our communities.
• Making wellness affordable and accessible.
• Protecting beauty by reducing waste and pollution.
This, to me, is what VIVIA truly means — health, beauty, and vitality that sustain both people and the planet.
5. Call for Action (Climax)
Ladies and gentlemen, everyone in this hall knows the reality. We know where we stand today. And we also know what awaits our children and grandchildren if we fail to act together. We must drive this effort together.
Governments cannot succeed without private sector innovation. Businesses cannot thrive without community trust. NGOs cannot act alone without collaboration. And the youth must not be excluded, because they are co-leaders of today, not just tomorrow. Let us be clear, Sustainable health, beauty, and wellness are not lifestyle choices. They are survival choices.
6. Appreciation to the Organizers
Once again, I extend my sincere thanks to SustNet for convening leaders and experts in this important field.
By coming together under the vision of VIVIA, we are not just celebrating ideas. We are building a movement that promotes holistic, ethical, and eco-friendly practices in the health and beauty industry — practices that empower our communities and regenerate our planet.
7. Closing Inspiration
Let me close with this thought: “Wellness is not only the absence of illness, but the presence of balance — between people and planet, between health and nature, between beauty and responsibility.”
Let us, as one Asia Pacific family, embrace VIVIA, and plant the seeds of sustainable health, beauty, and wellness today, so that the generations of tomorrow may live with dignity, harmony, and hope.
Thank you.
