Implementation of Port Klang Net in Port Klang

The Ministry of Transport has approved for the mandatory implementation of the Port Klang Net system operated by Port Klang Authority (PKA) effective March 1, 2017. The Port Klang Net system developed by PKA connects all key stakeholders in the port system under a single platform. It would facilitate data integration by multiple logistics service providers (port operators, forwarding agents, shipping agents, warehouse operators, freight forwarders, hauliers and depot operators) through a neutral platform with PKA.

All logistics service providers are required to be registered via Port Klang Net system in order for their transactions to be monitored and supervised by Port Klang Authority. The system allows manufacturers/importers and exporters to track and trace information on their shipment throughout the export and import chain and identify bottlenecks along these chains. The system which includes time stamps for every transaction will enable manufacturers/importers and exporters to identify parties responsible for delays or for falsely charging fees i.e. damage or container cleaning fees, demurrage charges etc.

To date, over 4,000 importers and exporters have registered with the Port Klang Net system. PKA is currently running a pilot project from March 1- June 1, 2017 to identify issues and determine areas for further improvement. There will be a fee of RM5.30 (inclusive of GST) per full transaction charged on forwarding agents for utilising the Port Klang Net system which will be billed back to the shippers. However, the fee has been deferred during  the pilot phase.

A briefing session for FMM members to understand the benefits and utilise the shippers’ front end software of the Port Klang Net system will be held as follows:
